Michele Seymour

My name is Michele Seymour and I currently teach in Palm Beach, Florida. I am married to my wonderful husband who serves in the United States Coast Guard. We have an 8-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter.

My husband and I both grew up near water and have an extreme love for all water activities. We always knew when we started a family that survival swimming was something we had to provide for our children. When our son was born in March 2015, we knew we wanted to get him into the water as soon as possible.

Upon enrolling my son into an infant survival swim program, I was quickly amazed by the skills, respect, and confidence my son had gained in such a short period of time. As his training went on my interest in the program became a passion to be an instructor. My desire is to educate and teach as many children as possible to become independent and safe in the water.

In 2016, I traveled to Miami, Florida to be trained under principal instructor Yazmin Acocella. I completed 100+ hours of intensive in-water training, along with learning about child development, psychology, and physiology. In addition, I have completed the swimming with Autism Instructor workshop to better understand and work with children with Autism. I am certified in basic life support, adult, child, and infant CPR/AED and First Aid.

In the spring of 2017, Swim 2 Survive Aquatics Academy was born, and my journey truly began. Over the next six months with the help of The City of Port Aransas Parks & Recreation community pool, Swim 2 Survive Aquatics Academy was able to educate the community and successfully teach this life saving skill to numerous children in the Corpus Christi area. In 2018, Swim 2 Survive Aquatics Academy relocated to the Washington, DC area. I had the privilege of teaching children in Anne Arundel County Maryland and the surrounding communities. Additionally, I had the opportunity to teach students through a grant from Penn- Mar Human Services (LISS) program. The program provides children with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to live courageously in pursuit of their best life.  In 2022, Swim 2 Survive Aquatics Academy temporarily closed due to COVID. I am proud to announce that we reopened and are serving the residents of Palm Beach County, Florida.

The survive swim program is truly life changing. Survival swimming not only allows me to teach children this invaluable lifesaving skill but allows me to be a mother and to reach more children as we move with my husband’s Coast Guard career.

During my time away from the water I have continued to educate myself and others on the survival swim methodology and how to be safer sooner around water. I have continued to educate myself with CE classes. I’m eager, passionate, and excited to educate the wonderful community of Palm Beach County about this life saving skill. I look forward to working with you and your family to help your children become safer sooner!
