Michele Seymour
My name is Michele Seymour and I currently teach in Severna Park, Maryland. I am married to my wonderful husband who serves in the United States Coast Guard. We have a 4 year old son and a 15 month old daughter.
My husband and I both grew up near water and have an extreme love for all water activities. We always knew when we started a family that survival swimming was something we had to provide to our children. When our son was born in March 2015, we knew we wanted to get him into the water as soon as possible.
Upon enrolling my son into an infant survival swim program I was quickly amazed by the skills, respect, and confidence my son had gained in such a short period of time. As his training went on my interest in the program became a passion to be an instructor. My desire is to educate and teach as many children possible to become independent in the water.
In 2016, I traveled to Miami, Florida to be trained under principal instructor Yazmin Acocella. I completed 100+ hours of intensive in-water training, along with learning about child development, psychology, and physiology. In addition, I have completed the swimming with Autism Instructor workshop to better understand and work with children with Autism. I am also certified in basic life support, adult, child, and infant CPR/AED and First Aid.
In the spring 2017, Swim Survive Aquatic Academy was born, and my journey truly began. Over the next six months with the help of The City of Port Aransas Parks & Recreation community pool, Swim 2 Survive Aquatic Academy was able educate the community and successfully teach this life saving skill to numerous children in the Corpus Christi area.
The survive swim program is truly life changing. Survival swimming not only allows me to teach children this invaluable lifesaving skill but allows me to be a mother and to reach more children as we move with my husband’s Coast Guard career. In October 2017, we were blessed with our second child and shortly after her arrival, we received orders to relocate to Washington DC in the summer of 2018. After countless hours of searching all the great areas the DMV has to offer, we found Anne Arundel County and its coastal communities to be perfect for our family and Swim to Survive Aquatics Academy.
During my time away from the water I have continued to educate myself and others on the survival swim methodology and to be safer sooner around water. I have attended the annual Survival Swim Development Network conference and continued training students in the survival swim methodology. I’m eager, passionate, and excited to educate the wonderful community of Anne Arundel County this life saving skill. I look forward to working with you and your family to help your children become safer sooner!
